Oncology massage

Gentle, supportive care during cancer treatment and recovery.

Oncology massage is a specialised form of massage therapy adapted for people experiencing cancer or living beyond it.

At Solace, treatments are provided by a certified oncology massage therapist and thoughtfully modified to support your body through diagnosis, treatment, recovery, or survivorship.

Each session is personalised to your medical history, energy levels, comfort, and emotional needs on the day.

This is about creating a safe, calm space where your body can rest and your nervous system can soften. It’s not about fixing anything — it’s about support, connection, and care, meeting you exactly where you are.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is oncology massage safe during cancer treatment?

Yes, when performed by a trained therapist, oncology massage is safe and supportive during chemotherapy, radiation, surgery recovery, and beyond. Your treatment will be adapted specifically to your medical history and current symptoms.

We always work within your comfort and energy levels.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

No referral is required, though you’re welcome to share any medical information you feel is helpful. We may ask about your diagnosis, treatments, medications, or symptoms to ensure your session is safe and appropriate. We also recommend letting your doctor or treatment team know you’re planning to have a massage, to confirm there’s no medical reason to avoid treatment.

Will pressure be lighter than a regular massage?

Yes. Oncology massage typically uses gentle pressure and modified techniques. This protects vulnerable tissues and supports your nervous system. If deeper work is appropriate in certain areas, this will be discussed with you.

Nothing is forced.

What if I feel emotional during my session?

That’s completely normal. Cancer affects more than the physical body. Emotions may surface, or you may simply feel deeply relaxed. You’re held in a safe, non-judgemental space, whatever comes up is welcome.

Can oncology massage help with side effects of treatment?

Many people find oncology massage helpful for managing stress, fatigue, anxiety, discomfort, and sleep changes. While it doesn’t treat cancer itself, it supports your overall wellbeing during a challenging time.

What should I wear?

Wear whatever feels comfortable. You will always be appropriately draped, and adjustments are made to support scars, ports, medical devices, sensitive areas, and/or limited mobility.

Can people under 18 receive oncology massage?

Yes. Clients under 18 are welcome to receive oncology massage. A parent or legal guardian must be present for the entire session, and all treatments are delivered with care and consent. We also hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC).

How often should I have oncology massage?

There’s no set rule. Some people come weekly, others monthly or occasionally. You know your body best.
